Energizing Nebraska’s economy while protecting the quality of life in rural communities.
“Quality of life” in a rural community is not about turning back the clock forty years. It’s about positioning a community for continued success—while maintaining the fundamental values and attributes treasured by those who live in rural areas.
When people in rural Nebraska describe what they value in their quality of life, they talk about:
- A community that is thriving—with students in the local school, customers in local businesses and families in local neighborhoods.
- A growing tax base that supports the needs of the community—from law enforcement to education, from snow removal to road maintenance.
- Opportunities to keep people in the community—good jobs for young people graduating from high school or college, income levels that can support a family, and a market that enhances existing businesses and encourages entrepreneurship.
- The benefits and access that modern technology provides—balanced with the slower pace and lower cost of living of rural areas.
- Safety and security. Clean air and breathtaking sunsets. A sense of hope and community that brings a promise of a bright future.
Viable agriculture—particularly livestock production—can help a community achieve these important objectives. A-FAN encourages farmers and ranchers to work in partnership with their communities to bring responsible livestock production to the county—and, in the process, energize the economy and brighten the future of the entire area.
