Seminars focus on growing Nebraska agriculture
LINCOLN, NE — The Alliance for the Future of Agriculture in Nebraska
(A-FAN) is urging Nebraska farmers and livestock producers to take part
in its upcoming “Agriculture Matters” seminars to be held Feb. 25 at
the Holiday Inn Express in Norfolk and Mar. 3 at the Holiday Inn York
I-80, near York. There is no registration fee for the seminars.
Seminars will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude by 4 p.m.
“These
seminars are designed to help agriculture producers explore new
opportunities to expand their operations and to help ensure they remain
viable into the future. Whether they’re looking to grow their current
operation or looking for ways to bring the next generation back to the
farm, these seminars will offer real tools they can use,” said Roger
Berry, A-FAN’s field director.
The seminars will open with Dr.
Weldon Sleight, dean of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture
discussing agriculture entrepreneurship. Other topics for the day
include: The Nebraska Pork Model; Making $ense of Manure as Fertilizer;
Nebraska Tax Incentives information, an overview of EQIP Assistance;
Agriculture Lenders’ and Producers’ Perspectives on Investing in
Livestock; Opportunities in Poultry Production; Feeding Ethanol
Co-Products; and a Livestock Regulatory Overview. The seminar will
conclude with a presentation on strategies for growing livestock
operations and supporting agriculture in Nebraska.
“As
agriculture has evolved we’ve seen greater specialization in both row
crop and animal agriculture production. These seminars will give
producers an opportunity to look at how diversifying their operation
with the inclusion or expansion of animal agriculture might be a means
to bring back that son or daughter to the farm or to meet their
long-term operational goals,” Berry said.
